Sinaloa, Cabo with Culture?

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with members from the Sinaloan Tourist Board and must report that I left feeling unusually intrigued. When I’ve considered traveling to Mexico before I’ve wondered about those places that might offer an experience deeper into the country’s heart than a few days on the beach in Cabo or Cancun. What perked my interest about Sinaloa is the promise of “real” Mexico that offers culture apart from the tourist infrastructure and a vibrant calendar of contemporary cultural events. I learned the restored opera house in Mazatlan offers 260 plus performances each year and the city will be hosting its first fashion week in November to showcase both up and coming as well as established designers. Add to this Copper Canyon, which is reportedly two times the size of the Grand Canyon. Yes, I am definitely intrigued.
