A Political View from Europe
November 5, 2008 · Written by Steve Smith & Christine Johnson · Print This Article
I just returned from Europe and the world showed me the handwriting on the wall.
The Economist magazine conducted a survey to get a global preference for the US president, and the poll overwhelmingly selected Obama over McCain. As one “voter” commented, let’s “… start the waiting game to see the performance matching …”. Now the waiting game is over and Obama has matched the prediction. A dream very nearly assassinated 40 years ago was realized last night.
America finally has entered the 21st century. Now the chance presents itself for us to slip back into the global community after our long 8 year absence. There was a glimmer of hope when the world embraced us just after the attacks of 9/11, but that was soon shattered. Let’s not blow it again.
