Yes, I would be concerned. Tears ago, worried about airport x-rays, I’d wrap my film in aluminum foil and not be concerned. Today’s machines, especially in the US, WILL RUIN YOUR FILM !
Consider having the photos developed in China; that’d probably be your best bet.

I’m traveling to China and was planning on using disposable cameras. I was just told that the x-ray equiptment used for international travel at airports will wipe out any pictures on a disposable camera because of the high film speed. Does anyone know if this is true?

Of course, as you know, I can relate to the grave mistake of being unprepared for shooting by arriving with three dead and dying batteries. Consider the lesson learned!

Great way to learn more about digital photography is to go on a photography holiday – relax and learn. I’ve been away with a few companies but in my opinion http://www.frui.co.uk is the best in terms of teaching and destinations.

Hi Mike! Very helpful post! I read your other post on matador (I’m the one who suggested mummifying a camera in black tape ) and wanted to stop by. Perhaps you could give me some more advice? I’m a beginner travel photographer but don’t know where to start when it comes to buying a camera (bet you saw that coming). I’d prefer not to break the bank with this purchase, if that’s possible, and would like to take pictures for both print and digital media. Any suggestions?
