Day 8: Sailing the BVI’s

Day 8: Sailing the BVI’s

Aug 30, 2010

Well, I write to you from my humble abode as I sit amidst my sail bags and piles of laundry. It was an amazing week and I am anxious to get back on a boat soon. I spent some time this evening at DiscoverBoating.com, finding out all I can about chartering and time-sharing, and buying boats. Not sure what I’ll do yet. But it’s clear to me that there’s

Sailing the BVI’s, Day 7

Woke up off Norman Island this morning a little sad knowing it was our last day of sailing. The crew and I made a short stop at The Indians, Pelican Island so we could do a final round of swimming and snorkeling. The current was too strong for me. But my girlfriend stayed in the water until the very last minute possible. I know for sure she was a fish in a

Today was a blast. The crew and I set sail early, headed for Soper’s Hole. We couldn’t have asked for better wind and we raced the other boats in our group to our destination. After a quick breakfast onboard, we headed for Jost Van Dyke where we anchored in White Bay. It was a beautiful day of sailing and I loved having the chance to practice my skills and help to teach my girlfriend the ropes, so to speak. Although after four days at sea, she was already getting pretty darn good. After anchoring, we took the dinghy ashore and hung

Sailing the BVI, Day 4

Had a nice dinner last night at an Italian/Caribbean fusion restaurant called the Rock Café. We ate inside because of the heat but the outside had the prettiest setting with a waterfall and moody lighting. Very cool. This morning we sailed to the nearby Gorda Sounds to a group of islands called The Dogs and tied together all four of the boats in our group to do

Sailing the BVI’s, Day 3

I decided to blog today right from the beach. So, still waterlogged and inches away from my snorkeling equipment, I sit, feet in the sand, waves crashing right at my feet. I’m in Devil’s Bay today on Virgin Gorda. To say it is beautiful is to hardly say anything at all. The water is aquamarine and crystal clear. The rock formations are massive and

Sailing the BVI, Day 2:

It’s the second day of my trip and it’s been an amazing one. Passed out cold last night after a long day of travel and dinner at Charlie’s restaurant at the marina at Wickhams Cay II on Tortola. We sailed to Monkey Point, Guana Island and did some great snorkeling, which for me means little effort and lots of pay-off. There was no current to fight and lots
