A Hat-Start in Puerto Rico
February 1, 2010 · 1 Comment
It was somewhat unfortunate that the cruise ship I was on docked in San Juan of Puerto Rico at 6.30pm and was scheduled to leave at midnight. That left few hours to explore and, to make it worse, in the dark and drizzling rain. Never one to be deterred by any circumstances, I walked off the ship as fast as I could manage and, seeing, that the dock was very close to Old San Juan, I decided to walk around town and enjoy the atmosphere of street and shop lights shrouded in mist and the soothing sound of a light tropical... If you don’t know Abaco, you don’t know the Bahamas

I’ve never been much of a Bahamas girl. Just the word itself makes me think of Spring Break and cheesy hotels. So you can imagine my surprise when I went to Abaco in the Bahamas and found myself in the most charming of beach destinations.
I stayed at the Abaco Beach Resort which offers hotel room, suites, condos, and boat slips. The marina was quite full when I was there and I liked the feel of that. I went sailing a lot as a kid... [Read more]
If Lord Nelson Came to Antigua Today!
January 19, 2010 · 2 Comments
Admiral Lord Nelson famously called the Caribbean island of Antigua a “mosquito infested hell hole” and spent as little time as possible ashore, preferring the crammed quarters of his ship to any accommodation the island could provide. In the know Caymanians party, if at all possible, on Thursday or Friday, so they can chill out and recover the next day in Rum Point. With the exception of Sunday or when more than one cruise ship is in port, Rum Point is still the best place I have ever been to to disperse that nagging headache which comes from just one too many of the island’s delicious (and dangerous) drinks. If, like me, you have a friend who is a Realtor by day and a salsa instructor by night, I’m sure you understand what I’m talking... [Read more]
Hotel 1829 in St. Thomas, USVI
January 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment
Climbing the first set of the famous 99 steps leading up to Blackbeard’s Castle in the center of Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St. Thomas, I first happened upon the World Amber Museum I told you about in my previous blog. All I can say is: keep climbing, because more surprises and glorious sites await. On the next level of the entire twisting and turning structure beckons the Hotel 1829, a small hotel in the Spanish style with a fascinating history.
